Distribution

Given an expression:

Example: 5(2x+4) -3

1. Multiply everything inside the parenthesis by the number outside the parenthesis.

5*2x + 5*4 -3

2. Simplify expression

10x + 20 -3

10x + 17
(Cannot combine the 10x and the 17 because they are not like terms; meaning one has an x and one does not)

3. Solution

10x + 17
